Hammers Aren’t Red or Blue
Building, Not Dividing: Austin Hosts the Carter Work Project
This fall, Austin steps onto the world stage. From October 26–31, the city and our very own Austin Habitat for Humanity will host the 2025 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project—an event that has, for nearly 40 years, united thousands of volunteers, celebrities, and global leaders across 14 countries to shine a spotlight on one of humanity’s most basic needs: a safe, affordable home. It’s personal for me as well as my late father used to build homes for Habit for Humanity.
It’s hard to overstate the honor. This annual project is a living legacy of President and Mrs. Carter, who spent decades traveling the globe not as politicians but as volunteers—side by side with neighbors, hammers in hand. Hammers, after all, aren’t red or blue. They build walls for shelter, not division.
This year, the project comes at a crucial time for Central Texas. With housing affordability at a crisis point, the Carter Work Project will rally thousands of volunteers to build 25 new homes in just one week. Even more powerful: it will launch Austin Habitat for Humanity’s expansion into Whisper Valley, the first fully geothermal neighborhood in the United States. Between Tesla’s Gigafactory and Samsung’s new megasite, Whisper Valley is a model of what the future can be—sustainable, community-driven, and built to last.
And 2025 isn’t just another year—it’s Austin Habitat’s 40th anniversary. What better way to celebrate four decades of service than by carrying forward the Carter legacy in the Live Music Capital of the World?
Why It Matters for USTomorrow
We spend too much time fighting battles manufactured in our capitols. The Carter Work Project is the antidote: real solutions for real families. It’s action instead of outrage, building instead of dividing. It’s the kind of leadership USTomorrow is here to amplify.
A Call to Sponsors
Here’s the urgent part: Sponsors must commit by August 22 to be part of this historic moment. National visibility, exclusive volunteer opportunities, and alignment with one of the most respected humanitarian projects in the world are all on the table. And thanks to a $1 million matching gift from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, every dollar you give will go twice as far.
Honoring Early Leaders
Already, some of America’s most trusted organizations are stepping up:
Dream Maker Sponsors ($100,000+): Bank of America, Ford Philanthropy, James Hardie, McCoy’s Building Supply, Stoggles, Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Foundation, Wesco
Roof Raiser Sponsors ($50,000+): Airbnb, At-Pac, Costco, Doka USA, Dow Inc., Eco-Soil Stabilizers, ECPR Texas, FedEx, IBM, Lowe’s, Milwaukee Electric Tool, The Reissa Foundation, SailPoint, Simpson Strong-Tie
Individual Sponsors: Families and foundations across Austin and beyond, from the Cunningham Family Foundation to Lynn and Hayden Brooks, are adding their names to the Carter legacy.
They’ve laid the foundation. Now, the question is: will you build with them?
